A Fresh Take on Fall

Often by the time November rolls around I’m sick of the color orange!  Blame it on pumpkin overload or just my general unfondness for the color, but it happens nonetheless.  This year was no different, so for this fall table I chose to go subtle with the pumpkins (and the orange!)  Here’s how I made it festive, fabulous, and easy.

Is That a Scarf?

My favorite styling tip… Use things as they weren’t really intended.  It makes your events and tables so much more original.  It also really ups the wow factor, often with pretty little effort!  Here I used a gorgeous scarf from PaintandPetals as a table runner, a glass lidded pumpkin candy jar for the centerpiece vase, and real mini pumpkins as vases for each place setting.

DIY Mini Pumpkin Vases

So, about those mini pumpkin vases.  Honestly, I dreaded making them.  The pain in my hands was still too fresh from carving Halloween pumpkins.  To my surprise these were a breeze!  I used a paring knife to cut off the tops and a small kitchen spoon to scoop out the insides.  I filled them with water and tiny bunches of flowers left over from the main centerpiece.  In ten minutes, I had finished all four!  They’d be darling used as place cards too.  (Trader Joe’s is the best source for gorgeous, inexpensive flowers year-round.  That’s where I got these gorgeous hydrangeas and lisianthus.  Florist quality, not florist prices.)

Throw It All Away

I’ve always been a believer in disposable tableware.  Less clean up, less stress, less germs.  With all the fabulous options available now, why not go the throw away route!  In fact, all the tableware, drinkware, and cutlery I used for this tablescape is disposable!  And at under $2 each, those fringed cotton napkins from World Market just about are as well.  Both styles of paper plates are from Lake Tahoe based artist, Bridgette Thornton, of PaintandPetals.  I layered them on EZ Party gold rimmed plastic chargers to give them more substance.  While the stemless glasses are technically disposable, the quality is so great that I always find it hard to toss them!  And that fabulous gold flatware speaks for itself.  Or should I say sparkles!

End on a Sweet Note

Individual desserts are always my go-to choice.  They’re easiest to serve, and for some reason, everything is just cuter in mini form!  These bourbon pecan bread puddings were so simple to make.  Plus, they’re even better when made in advance making them an entertainer’s dream.  Rather than using one large baking dish I used individual paper baking cups from EZ Party.  Their stiff fluted walls are super sturdy, so you just place them right on a baking sheet.  No muffin tin required!  Topped with a mini fork, they’re the perfect individual treat, and the best way to finish off your festive, fabulous, and easy fresh take on fall.
